Westfield Scout Group is holding a Jumble Sale (tomorrow) Saturday 9 February at 2pm in Westfield Community Hall. Admission is just 20p, with lots of bargains for everyone. Donations of jumble gratefully received at the Hall from 12 noon, but please, no TVs, monitors, or items larger than a chair.

St Michael’s Hospice will be starting the Hospice Neighbours scheme in Westfield (and Sedlescombe) later in the year. Hospice Neighbours is a network of community based volunteers who, after short initial training, provide company and help at home with small practical things which make such a difference to people with a life limiting illness. The Westfield HUB meets at ‘The Plough’ on Fridays from 10am to 12noon. A warm and friendly welcome and a decent cup of tea/coffee is assured at the Hub every Friday morning between 10am and midday.’

Westfield Ladies Stoolball indoor team needs new members over 16 years to play on Tuesday evenings at Claverham Community College during the winter. Membership is £2 for one month, and the games fee is £2.50. Telephone Rose on 01424 756875.

Street Dance classes have started again for those 7 years and over on Fridays from 6.15-7.15pm in the WCA Hall. The first class is free, then the cost is £4.50. Contact Amanda on 07762881260 for details.

Kick start the new year with Legs, Bums and Tums on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7.15pm in the WCA Hall. This is a very friendly group, with aerobic and toning exercises suitable for all levels of fitness. £3.50 per class.

Skating times in the community hall on Fridays for children are now 4 til 5 pm.The Westfield Wildlife website is worth a visit, especially as winter approaches. Battle Area Community Transport . Just to confirm arrangements - passengers do not have to ring to book a seat for Sainsburys. They only have to ring if they want to book the flexi services on the back page going to Tunbridge Wells, Rye, Tenterden etc. Our normal bus services on Wednesday at 11:12 boarded just by waiting at the stop. We are starting 3 new bi monthly bus services with pickups in Westfield. These are Maidstone on 12 March, Hailsham on 22 March and Ashford 26 April. Bus passes can be used on all our services but they would need to book their seats in advance by calling me on the number below. Times will be arranged once they have booked their seat and arranged where they require pick up from. We will then confirmed the route and I will call them a few days before with a confirmed time. The Friendship Club meets in the Parish Hall on alternate Mondays from 2-3.30pm. The next meeting will be on Monday 18th February 2.0 p.m. - 3.30 p.m. in the Parish Hall and thereafter alternate Mondays. Yearly subscription £5 with 10p per meeting. New members will be made very welcome.

The Sedlescombe and Westfield Club of the East Sussex Disability Association (ESDA) is looking for new members. ESDA is a charity organisation led by disabled people and provides expert advice, information and practical support. ESDA has dedicated accessible coaches with fully qualified driver attendants providing a door to door service for members. The Sedlescombe and Westfield Club have outings on the second Thursday of the month. Members participate in fundraising to keep the costs down, so there is simply a contribution requested towards the transport. The Rye and District Association of the National Trust. Saturday 9th February 2013 - Our New Year’s Lunch planned for 19th January had to be postponed owing to the snow. The new date means that members and friends who were unable to attend on the original date may now find that they are able to do so. If you would like to join us the New Year Lunch will be at Powdermills Hotel, Battle.12.30 for 1.00 pm. The cost is £24.50 pp. But you will have to make your booking quickly so that the hotel can be advised of the new numbers. Lions Blow Their Horns. Rye and District Lions were delighted to once again fill Beckley Village Hall with some 110 members of the public for their Burns Night Brass Band Concert for the seventh year running. The evening raised a net total of over £600 and Malcolm McDonough, President of Rye Lions, announced on the night that the Lions would increase this to £1,000 to be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support as at all previous concerts.

This would be allocated towards the new Cancer Support Centre being planned for Sussex at the Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton. The audience were welcomed with hot mince pies and mulled wine before enjoying a varied repertoire of music from Sussex Brass. The haggis was borne into the hall by Lion Jim Radley to “Scotland the Brave”. Sussex Brass played a varied selection of music from musicals to classics and naturally included a Scottish medley. The conductor, Steve Hollamby, amused the audience with anecdotes, jokes and facts about the music and a highlight was a version of “The Teddy Bears’ Picnic” played on the bass tuber. The evening was rounded off by the audience joining in “Auld Lang Syne”, followed by the Band’s signature tune, a rousing “Sussex by the Sea”, which the audience also sang along to, helped by Rye Age Concern bringing along their song sheets. Rye Lions have been pleased to have several new members join recently and would still be delighted for more adults to join them.
