Westergate pair top £1,800 with London Marathon effort

Running pals Jacqueline Hooton and Simon Wagstaff raised more than £1,800 by completing the London Marathon.

The pair from Westergate's Sixth Dimension running club finished the 26.2 mile course in a personal best time of 4hrs 50mins. This was ten minutes faster than last year.

Their latest exertions benefited the Sussex Snowdrop Trust and its work with children with serious and life threatening illnesses.

Simon (49) said: "We have so many amazing memories of the day. Particular highlights include running alongside the Masai Warriors and seeing all our family as we reached the final 200m of the race at Buckingham Palace."

Jacqueline (45) explained: "The atmosphere of the London Marathon is fabulous. The support from the crowd keeps you going.

"It's a very emotional day and, when you finally get to the end, and they hang the medal around your neck, most runners shed a few tears.

"It's an amazing achievement for any runner, whatever their finish time, and represents the culmination of months of training."

Five of their fellow running club members also took part in Sunday's big race.

Jacqueline and Simon will be taking part in shorter races '“ such as the Bognor Prom 10k on May 18 '“ in the coming months.
