The volunteers who have signed up for the scheme will join nature reserve and British Trust Conservation Volunteers staff to learn to identify some of the many birds found at the harbour.

BTCV, the UK's leading practical conservation charity, runs the West Sussex Beach Wardens programme. This is made possible by a grant of more than 36,000 awarded by The Veolia Environmental Trust under the landfill communities fund, and support from v, the new youth volunteering charity.

The past four years has seen the charity train more than 50 volunteer beach wardens along rhe West Sussex coast.

These dedicated volunteers look after their local beaches by surveying wildlife, organising beach cleans and engaging with the community.
