Udimore

Richard Holmes, Beauchamps

Most of Theresa Mizen’s many friends will have already heard the sad news that her long battle with cancer came to an end when she died late last Friday evening. She had borne her illness with great determination and cheerful courage, a shining example to all of us who were lucky enough to know her. She seemed to draw strength from her widespread interests, especially in horses and dogs, from the four young people whom she and David long-term-fostered, from the support of her family and friends, and most of all from the steadfast support of David himself. Her funeral is to be in St Mary’s Church, at a date and time still to be decided.

At 2pm on Wednesday (February 13) in Brede Village Hall there will be a special open meeting of Brede Women’s Institute. Two solicitors from the local firm Heringtons will be there to lead a discussion on the subject of wills and lasting powers of attorney. This promises to be a most informative event, open to everyone who would like to attend.

In case word hasn’t reached you before, please note that the Quiz Evening originally arranged for tomorrow (Saturday) in St Mary’s Community Hall has been postponed to next Saturday, February 16, starting at 6.45pm. This is a fundraising event for Hall funds. The ticket price of £10 includes a fish and chip supper (bring your own bottles; delicious desserts available @ £2). There will also be a raffle. Please ring 01424 882250 to book tickets, and tables for the quiz.

An important note for your diaries: the third Brede and Udimore Prose and Poetry Evening is due to take place on Saturday February 23 in the Hall. This has already proved to be a very popular annual event, and the organizers hope they can rely on your support again. There will be a two-course home-cooked meal and the pleasure of listening to a wide range of short readings - and contributing to them yourselves if you’d like to (you may like to think of choosing a piece or two now, to prepare during the next two weeks). All funds raised will be shared between the two parish churches.
