U3A launched in Bognor Regis

The town’s branch of the University of the Third Age promises a world of interest and enjoyment to anyone who does not work full-time.

The free meeting, held in the Gordon Centre, in Canada Grove, was to gauge interest.

One of those involved in the launch, Yapton resident Jill Wellman, 68, said: “The reason for people to come along is if they are looking for a new interest and want to keep their body and mind active now they are no longer working full-time.

“The U3A is a brilliant idea. It’s a way to make new friends and to socialise and is a self-help organisation with everybody learning from each other.”

Typical activities on offer in a U3A branch are music, art, languages, outdoor pursuits, history, photography and science.

The U3A has been running for 15 years, but anyone in Bognor interested in joining until now has had to go outside the town.

The new branch – which will also serve the surrounding villages – will improve that situation.
