Two more schools won't boycott SATS

FURTHER to last week's report that only one primary school in the Bexhill area - Chantry - would not be backing a trades union boycott of Sats, two more have now said they will be going ahead with the tests.

St Peter and St Paul School in Buckhurst Road, and St Mary Magdalene Catholic Primary School in Hastings Road, both contacted the Observer to say their year six 10 and 11-year-olds will sit the tests next week.

Christopher Miles, chairman of the governors at St Peter and St Paul's School, said: "If a significant number of schools boycott the tests the comparative data published later on may be skewed.

"However, the externally moderated results will still be useful to the school in our own moderation and assessments and will be reported to parents in the usual way."

Nationally, some schools have stepped back from boycotting Sats for fear of compromising their Ofsted inspections.
