Trust may manage festival

A TRUST could be set up to manage the annual Adur Festival.

The two-week festival, which takes place throughout the district, is run by the council's leisure services department, with help from the voluntary festival steering committee,

A consultant who has looked at how the festival is run says that, while it is a successful community-based event, it operates on an informal basis which could threaten its future. He has recommended a new organisation be set up to advise the council on how to develop the festival like an Adur Festival Trust.

Further market and audience research and a business plan also need to be set up to work out the economic benefits of the festival to the district.

Adur Festival steering group chairman Richard Durrant told Adur council's community services committee that the group totally supported the consultant's recommendations.
