The man has been airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London.

His condition is life-threatening, say Sussex Police.

Diversions set up while emergency services were in attendance, but the incident caused significant traffic delays.

The northbound carriageway of the A24 was re-opened just after 1pm but the southbound carriageway remained closed for a further two hours.
