Green Watch from Horsham Fire Station will be dropping into the annual fair at Lintot Square in Southwater to raise awareness of their Home Fire Safety Check Service and to chat informally with people about staying safe over the festive period.

Christmas is a time for gathering together to celebrate with family and friends but it also a time when the risk of having a fire in the home increases.

The visit is part of West Sussex Fire & Rescue service’s current Who Cares? campaign, which aims to increase awareness of the life-saving potential of Home Fire Safety Checks and the availability of specialist fire detection and protection equipment for the over 65s.

Firefighter Richard Cruise, part of the crew attending the event, said:

“Christmas is traditionally a time when we all think more about other people. That’s what the Who Cares campaign is all about. If you know someone vulnerable or living alone, please consider recommending a Home Fire Safety Check by West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service. This small action really could help save their life.”

“Fire safety is something that gets easily forgotten at Christmas so the fair will also give us a great opportunity to talk to people about how to reduce the risk of fire in their home over the festive period.”

The crew will be at Lintot Square in Southwater on Saturday November 30, between 10am and 3pm.
