The driver of the Peugeot William Richardson, 18, of Hayes Lane, Slinford, died at the scene.

Asa’s family said: “Asa was the love of our lives. We are in the most agonising pain at losing him and cannot bear the thought of a future without him. His friends have put messages on Facebook saying what a funny, kind, witty boy he was and that he wasn’t just a brother, he was a friend.

“Everyone has said his smile was what they remember of him most and his humour.”

The family of William Richardson said: “William was a beautiful boy and will always be in our hearts.”

Police and emergency services, including West Sussex Fire and Rescue, were called to the A264 Five Oaks Road near Fulfords Hill at around 8.10pm on 5 July.

Two other passengers, an 18-year-old man from Billingshurst and a 17-year-old girl from West Chiltington were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, one with serious but non life threatening injuries and the other (the girl) with minor injuries.

Sergeant Alan Spicer from the Roads Policing Unit said: “All fatal road traffic collisions are tragic but even more so, when it involves young people just starting out in life.”
