Thousands raised for man killed on A24

The family of great-grandfather, Don Lock, who was killed on the A24 last year has raised more then £3,000 to build a memorial in his honour.

Granddaughter, Carly Goodlad, 29, said two fundraisers in Worthing have been a huge success and saw the community come together.

On Sunday, March 20, hundreds of people took part in an auction – led by Ian Hart of Ian Hart Funeral Services – along with a raffle and tombola at The Smugglers Return in Ham Road, Worthing, raising just under £2,000.

She said: “We had a great day, loads of people turned up to support the event. We had lots of fun, the children enjoyed themselves and we had loads of prizes to give away.”

The Craft Tea Gift Shop in Warwick Street, Worthing raised £100 by selling tea, coffee and cakes on Monday, March 14.

Also a Go Fund Me page, which has so far racked up £676.50, brings together a total of £3,563 to go towards a sculpture in Broadwater.

Don, 79, was an avid cyclist and member of Worthing Excelsior Cycling Club in Broadwater Street.

The family is currently in talks with a member of the club, who also happens to be a stonemason, to come up with a design.

Worthing and Adur Council has agreed to a public sculpture in Broadwater, in principle, but there are currently no details on its location.

It is hoped to be positioned close to the cycling club at the Broadwater Parish Rooms and Don’s former place of work, Miller Parris, where he was a legal executive for more than 40 years.

Carly said the ultimate goal is to raise £14,000, but the family needs to consider more fundraising opportunities in the mean time.
