The man followed the 16-year-old victim as he was walking along the footpath from St Leonards Academy alongside South Saxons Field on Thursday, March 10.

As they got to West Hill Road the suspect asked the victim for the time at 3.05pm and after he was told, he continued to follow the boy along the road, towards the junction with Boscobel Road.

He then demanded the boy hand over his bag which contained a computer tablet and books.

He dropped it and managed to flag down a passing motorist who followed the robber into nearby Essenden Road, challenged him and got the bag and its contents back for the victim.

The suspect is white, aged 16 to 20, 5’ 7”, with blue eyes, of slim build, with mousey brown hair and freckles across his nose.

He was wearing a navy blue puffa jacket, with the hood up, dark navy blue jeans and dark coloured trainers.

Detective Constable Ian Dearling said: “This was a nasty experience for the boy who was shaken up by it.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed this robbery to come forward no matter how significant or insignificant they feel what they saw was.

“Someone out there must recognise the suspect.

“I would urge him to give himself up or for anyone that knows him to contact police.”
