'Tardis' eco-home for sale

THE MOST environmentally house in the UK is up for sale in Lewes.Owners Aaron and Raphaella Curtis want to sell their five-bedroom property in Pinwell Road for £865,000.

Last year the house won the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society eco house of the year.

Special features in the spacious home include under-floor heating, solar roof panels and an internal vacuum system.

The house was also awarded the RIBA Ibstock Downland Prize for Sustainability 2006.

A report for the prize said at the time: 'Given an uncompromisingly small brown-field site and a client brief for a family home for eight children, this four-storey, environmentally friendly town house has a tardis-like quality.

'It uses every bit of available space to great effect and with great style.'

The house was originally designed by BBM Sustainable Design, of Lewes.

A listing of the house on www.lewesestates.co.uk says : 'The design of this imposing structure, defined in character by the cubic building elements, solid sections of wall and the contrast of vertical and horizontal lines references the tradition of classic white modernism.'
