Su helps Aldwick student sculptors

The six individuals immediately signed up to become the first members of Su Cloud’s creative clay club.

The demand has also seen Su launch evening sessions for those who work.

She has launched the venture based around a kiln in her new ceramic studio at her home in Barrack Lane.

The students have the rare chance of using the equipment - which reaches 1,300C - to make their pieces.

Su said: “I’m offering the creative clay workshops on a completely flexible basis. At the moment, the sessions take place from 10.30am-12.30pm and 1.30-3.30pm on Wednesdays.

“People can come for two hours or for all four hours. The evening sessions will be from 7pm-9pm.”

She said she hoped the popular BBC2 programme, The Great Pottery Throw Down, would encourage more people to discover the joys of ceramic sculpting using hand-building techniques.

“People can create what they want when they are here,” she said. “Sculpting is very therapeutic and quite relaxing. But it is expensive to buy a kiln - at least £1,500 - and then you need the space to put it in.” The workshops cost £5 an hour. Clay can be supplied at an extra charge or taken along.
