St Richards youngsters join climate change walk

The day began with an Ecumenical Prayer Service in Westminster Hall which was led by church leaders from all Christian denominations. Then, the St. Richard's pupils took part in activities organized by CAFOD which included being interviewed and filmed giving their thoughts on climate change and what should be done.

In the afternoon, the pupils joined the Wave march around the Thames and Central London. This was the biggest march for climate change ever to take place in the UK. The aim was to put pressure on world leaders to reduce carbon emissions ahead of the Copenhagen Summit.

The St. Richard's pupils were accompanied by Peter Byrne, subject leader for R.E. at the college, and Anne Barry, a former teacher and CAFOD volunteer. Peter Byrne said:

"It was great that the pupils felt so passionate about climate change that they were willing to give up their time to demand greater climate justice. Sadly, it is the poorest countries that are affected most by the actions of the richest nations."
