Spectacle assured at Sea Speed weekend

HIGH speed racing and crabbing will combine at the weekend to create two days of family fun.

Littlehampton Sea Speed weekend, formerly named the regatta, and later the sea front festival, will see some 30 speed boats meet at the marina, before parading down the river and out to sea for high tide racing. The boats will leave the marina at around 12.30pm.

This year there is the added spectacle of the Great Britain water-ski team racing at speeds of up to 100mph.

There will also be a host of family activities on offer, including face painting, balloon modelling and charity stalls.

The crabbing competition promises to be as popular as ever, with prizes for the most crabs collected at the end of each day.

Entries will be taken at the Harbour Board offices from 12.30pm on each day, and the competition will be from 1pm to 3pm. Single line entry on Saturday will cost 1, with family entry on Sunday costing 2.

There will also by music performed by the Nautical Training Corps band.

This year's event was in danger of not taking place, after organisers pulled out earlier this year. Littlehampton Town Council and the Harbour Board rescued the weekend, re-naming it Sea Speed weekend.
