Sparks fly at annual Horsham Park event

Hundreds of families flocked to a sunny Horsham Park on Sunday for the annual Sparks in the Park event.

After last year’s event was cancelled due to rain, the sun shone for much of this year’s Horsham District Council-run day, on Sunday July 28.

Cllr Jonathan Chowen, Horsham District Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Heritage and Leisure, said: “After everyone’s disappointment last year, this has put Sparks firmly back on the calendar as another ‘don’t miss’ Horsham event.

“I am delighted to have seen so many people enjoying Sparks and urge everyone to let us have their feedback using our online survey so that we and our community partners can build further on this event’s success.”

More than 100 partners, businesses, charities and community groups were represented on the day - with dance displays and musical performances wowing the crowd and a number of activities for children to try.

Horsham Police came out in force for the Community Safety Day and the Skate Jam, taking place at Horsham Skate Park, saw 53 entrants show off their talents.

31 mascots appeared on the day, and delighted onlookers by competing in a tug of war and later breaking the British record for most mascots doing the conga - much to the crowd’s amusement.

The County Times’ very own mascot, Chipper the dog, was among the dancing creatures taking their place in the record books.

The day’s events were rounded off in the sun by local covers band Strobe and their fun-filled set.
