Spain homeowners seek property swap

A RETIRED Bexhill couple are hoping to exchange their sunny Spanish home for a similar property in the town.

Bryan and Lynda Knowles (pictured) live in a two-bedroom luxury apartment in Andalucian coastal village La Herradura, on the Costa Tropical south of Granada.

Bryan said: “We would like to exchange our apartment in La Herradura for a two bedroom apartment in Bexhill, this would enable us to spend the summer months with our daughters and grandchildren.”

Bryan said their apartment sleeps four and is ideally positioned for the beach and amenities: “The apartment we live in is eight years old, and has all mod cons with a large terrace.

“It is located on the edge of the village and the beach is just five minutes’ walk away.

“The local supermarket and municipal market with fresh fish, meat, veg etc, is also only 20 minutes away.

“The village is a typical Andalucian white (after the colour of the buildings) coastal village with a mix of old narrow streets and modern apartments.”

La Herradura means ‘Horseshoe’, named after the shape of the bay and beach.

Bryan said the pace of life in the village is a lot slower and far more laid-back than the UK, and anyone taking up their offer of a property swap need not fear if speaking Spanish doesn’t come easy.

Bryan said: “The locals are very forgiving of your attempts at their language.

“Some English is spoken but be prepared to make an effort to learn some basic courtesies in Spanish. There are two reasonably-priced language schools for those who wish to further their Spanish lessons.”

Prior to their move to Spain 10 years ago, Bryan and Lynda lived in Bexhill for many years. Their two daughters went to King Offa primary school and Bexhill High.

Grandchildren are Jay, aged eight, and six-year-old Ruby.

Bryan said ideally they would like to do the property swap for a minimum of at least July and August, adding: “We have been very limited to short stays of a few weeks in the past but this exchange will allow us more quality time with our grandchildren during the school holidays.

“We have not tried home exchange before and we obviously wish to find someone who would respect our home as their own and not as a normal holiday rental property.”
