Lewes Borough Commander Garry Collins said: “We are acutely aware of the dangers at this time of the year brought on by the changes in weather. Local fire crews and police were working with Tesco store in Lewes on Friday delivering key safety messages and handing out free window scrapers.

“Please ensure that you drive to the conditions as the temperatures drops during this time of the year. Part of that preparation is to ensure that your vehicle is safely de-iced prior to heading on your way. The critical thing is to moderate your speed at this time of year as the conditions deteriorate.”

The BBC Weather Centre is warning of the risk of some sleet and snow in East Sussex today, with a risk of accumulations in places. There will be sunshine developing this afternoon but with an isolated wintry shower possible over Kent, and a cold northerly breeze.

Tonight will have mostly clear skies across the region and overnight this will allow a sharp frost to form. Forecasters warn of a risk of icy patches forming too, especially on untreated surfaces.
