Shripney's Robin Hood pub wins national award

The Robin Hood in Shripney has become one of just a dozen pubs in the UK to win a Beautiful Beer Platinum Award.

General manager Jason Lloyd received the plaque and certificate from Trevor Fulcher of the British Beer and Pub Association.

The Punch Pub Company pub had to demonstrate a 'passion for beer' by offering a wide range on draught and in bottles.

Staff had to know what they tasted like in order to recommend the one most likely to appeal to each customer.

The pub also had to offer a beer list or a menu matching beers with food '“ and it had to serve the highest-quality beer.

Inspectors checked the storage of beer in the cellar, its pouring behind the bar and the staff's knowledge of beer.

A score of 95 out of 100 was required to win the Platinum Award, the higher of the two levels in the scheme.

Mr Lloyd said: ''We are passionate about beer in The Robin Hood, so it's great to receive this external recognition.

"The Beautiful Beer Platinum plaque on the wall tells customers that when they come into our pub, they are guaranteed not only great-quality beer, but a variety of beer styles, staff who are passionate about beer, and beers that match our food menu.

"In short, a memorable 'beer experience' that will appeal not only to beer fans but to anyone who's interested in discovering new tastes and flavours.

"We have been Cask Marque accredited for the past five years, and two years ago we received a Beautiful Beer Gold Award.

"Having this Platinum Award completes the set and proves we serve some of the very best beer around."

David Butcher, the Beautiful Beer assessor who inspected The Robin Hood, said: ''It takes up to four hours to carry out a Beautiful Beer Platinum assessment, so it's very thorough and the pub has to meet high standards to pass.

"Jason and his team should be proud of their achievement.''
