Shopping fun day

Young shoppers faced a challenge in Heathfield on Saturday - their task was to spot Christmas crackers hidden in the window displays of 45 shops.

The game added to excitement in the town on the family fun day which included visits from Father Christmas, street entertainers, a troop of Morris Men, the town crier and a lone piper.

Many of the shops offered drinks and nibbles and there was a chance too for children to have their faces painted.

All in all it was a very successful day, according to Mrs Sue Mosey, a member of the Chamber of Commerce steering committee which co-ordinated events.

Shops took part in a best dressed window competition on a festive theme, incorporating the hidden crackers, and Mrs Mosey said the judge Mrs Jeni Woodhouse of Huffles Nursery School, Heathfield, was impressed by the standard of entries.

Winner of the competition was Bear Necessities, with Patisserie Valentin second.

Winning first prize of two tickets to Legoland for spotting the hidden crackers was four-year-old Adam Aucock, and runner up was Callum Laddiman.
