SEDLESCOMBE STORES: Have you noticed the new longer opening hours at the village shop? Monday to Friday they are now open from 6am to 8pm and Sunday 8.30am to 2pm. Use your local shop and make your life a little easier also when you have forgotten something or need to stop off on the way to and from work.

COFFEE MORNING AND MINI MARKET: The next coffee morning and mini market in aid of St John the Baptist will be in the village hall on Thursday July 7 from 10 to 11.30am. It is hoped all the usual stalls will be on offer; home baked goodies, plants, bric a brac, books and jigsaw puzzles. Are you new to the village? Do go along and meet new friends, you will be made very welcome. There is no entry charge and with coffee, tea, fruit and cheese scones at just £1, it is a bargain for you all. SEDLESCOMBE FLOWER FESTIVAL: Margaret Hudson reports on last weekend when our local parish church, St John the Baptist held a flower festival. “What a lovely weekend we had for our Flower Festival, the weather was kind most of the time ! Our visitors enjoyed tea and cake in our churchyard, many thanks to everyone for the hard work tidying it. The flower arrangements were stunning again. A huge Thank You to all our arrangers, our “Summer Happenings” really came to life. We had lots of visitors from as far afield as Canada, Holland and the North of England writing in the visitors book some super comments. More Thank You’s must go to our tea ladies also everyone who donated yummy cakes. Thank you to the ladies, Trevor and Stephen for running the tombola and stalls for the whole two days. We had lots of gifts for the tombola again thank you very much to everyone”

Margaret is obviously far too modest to say that along with being one of the organisers of this event she also was one of the talented arrangers that took part. Many titles were interpreted beautifully by Norma Huntley, Sheila Benson, Sheila Palmer, Julie Cameron, Valerie Tegg, Prim Charman, Karen Thomas, Joan Rowe, Jean Dann, Christine Overy, Janice Field, Janet Gripper, Sylvia Beaney, Sandra Davies, Shirley Bonney and Rev. Kevin Mepham. We are so fortunate to have such creative people in and around the village.

SEDLESCOMBE AND DISTRICT FLOWER CLUB: It seems to be all flowers this week however although the title may say “flower” the club is actually not meeting this month at the hall. On July 13 they will be attending their annual flower club lunch , any member who has yet to confirm their place and menu choices please could you contact Sheila on 01797 223927. HAMPTON COURT FLOWER SHOW: There are still a few tickets available for the coach trip to Hampton Court Flower Show organised by Sedlescombe and District Garden Society. The date is Thursday July 7 and the cost £35, to include coach and entry to the event. Come and join us on a trip to remember. Hampton Court has such history and the flower show will I know be fantastic. If you are interested in joining the trip please contact Rod Eldridge on 01424 870983 for further information. SEDLESCOMBE FAYRE 2016: Only a few weeks now, preparations are well on the way to ensure that Sedlescombe has a day to remember on Saturday July 16. Mark your diaries for the summer event of the year, Sedlescombe fayre along with the Sedlescombe and District Gardening Society summer show will take place on the sports field. Many of the village groups and businesses have already signed up to take part and be there. The goose will make a star appearance once again later in the day and you could win a cash prize so try to buy a square now before the date whenever you see John Brownsdon in his goose hat! Live music, dog display, model aircraft flying display, vintage cars, games and fun for all the family and refreshments throughout the afternoon, more news on attractions to follow. Once again Chris Campbell has sponsored advertising boards in the local area and Pumphouse Designs printing posters and flyers. GRAND DRAW AT VILLAGE FAYRE: Tickets are now on sale at the Village Shop, The Clockhouse Hair and Beauty Studio and the Queens Head priced at just 50p each.

There have been more fantastic prizes donated for the Grand Draw this year than ever, thanks to the generosity of the Brickwall Hotel, the Queens Head, Clockhouse Hair and Beauty, Bella Vista restaurant, Treat of Battle, Sedlescombe Model aircraft club, Pashley Manor gardens, Sedlescombe Vineyard, Carr Taylor Vineyard, Vicarys of Battle, Brian Croucher, Sedlescombe Golf Club, Sedlescombe Players , Jonathan Vine hall , Big Green Cardigan festival, Great Park Farm Nursery plus more. All proceeds from the draw goes towards village causes.

SEDLESCOMBE’S GOT TALENT: This is a personal comment but I read with interest the front line news article by David Horne in this paper last week regarding the above event - it was sad that as one of the battle community singers, he didn’t manage to mention that he was taking part in a charity event put on by volunteers for the good of their community instead of trying to get a cheap laugh at their expense. And that through the efforts of those involved and the talented performers, £ 500 was raised for the “Friends of Sedlescombe Church” charity.

ST MICHAELS HOSPICE OPEN GARDENS 2016: On Tuesday July 5 it is the turn of Ninfield to open their gardens, three to be precise in Marlpits Lane TN33 9LD. “Elm Cottage”, will be the base for refreshments. This garden plus “Broad View” and “Channings” will be open to visit from 10.30am to 4pm. The admission price of £5 allows unlimited access throughout the day to all three which will be marked by the hospice signs. Booklets, with details of all the gardens open in the surrounding area in aid of St Michaels hospice, are on sale at the Sedlescombe Stores. The season will have gardens open every week until August with one additional garden open in October. A minimum donation of 50p is requested for the booklet.
