Scouts did best ever with sale

AS do all scouts, the 1st Ninfield troop pride themselves on being prepared.

But they were taken aback by the tremendous response they got to the first of their twice yearly jumble sales, held at Ninfield Memorial Hall on Saturday afternoon.

In less than a couple of hours, the troop’s coffers had swelled by £1,250 as customers queued in the car park for their chance of a bargain and kept stallholders busy even when the time had come to close.

Delighted group scout leader Peter Mann said: “We formed the 1st Ninfield back in 1984 and have been holding jumble sales since 1986 to help raise funds to meet hall hire charges, buy equipment, fund outings and keep subscriptions reasonable.

“But this was by far and away the best result we’ve ever had, and I’d like to thank all the parents and friends who came along to help run the event and all those who supported us so generously. We shall have our work cut out to better this with our second sale in late June/early July.”

The 1st Ninfield is currently fully subscribed, with 20 Beavers aged six to eight, 26 Cubs aged eight to 10, 28 Scouts aged 10 to 14 and a new seven-strong section of 14 to 18-year-old Explorers.
