Schools take part in athletics competition

Rye Primary School emerged the victors at the annual Rye College Sports Family Year 4 Athletics Competition.

The event was hosted by St Thomas CE School.

Five primary schools from Beckley, Peasmarsh, Rye, Playden and Winchelsea participated in the evenings activities.

The competition, organised by Rye College School Sport Co-Coordinator John Lovell, was run by, Year 5 and Year 6 Young Sports Leaders from St Thomas CE School, as part of their leadership and citizenship curriculum.

The students worked enthusiastically in teams to officiate, score and support the year 4 athletes throughout the competition.

Teams of 6 pupils (3 girls and 3 boys) took part in standing triple jump, turbo javelin and a 50 metre sprint.

The evening concluded with boys and girls relay races which were keenly contested.

Points from all events were calculated to decide final placings. Rye CP finishing as winners.

The results were: Rye 143 points, Playden 127 points; Winchelsea 113 points; Peasmarsh 89 points and Beckley 82 points.
