Rye’s ARRCC charity in the spotlight

Graham Peters was joined by Colin Belsey, Chairman of East Sussex County Council.

They spent a morning at ARRCC’s New Road home, at Rye, meeting members and staff.

ARRCC plays a vital role providing activities and respite care for disabled adults in the Rye area.

Irna Mortlock, from ARRCC, said: “It was ‘cookery day’ and the members soon had the visitors engaged in the preparation of home made shepherd’s pie followed by cheesecake.

The Arts Room was, as usual, buzzing with talent and humour, although Graham Peters was happy to spend a few ‘chill out’ minutes in the therapy room. Despite the rain, the visitors were shown the garden which is home to an inspirational ongoing project led by volunteer Patrick Cox Smith, of a working model railway surrounded by a model village.

The houses and shops have all been made by the members and it even includes a church.

“The next visit was to ARRCC Elders at Magdala House. Roy Apps, BBC Script writer and BAFTA award winner was there to encourage members to sing and read from their ARRCC Elders Songbook.

“The Songbook is an reminiscence project recently completed by Roy and Jamie Harris.”

ARRCC is looking for Personal Care Assistants for their growing Independent Living Service, and Volunteers are very welcome.
