Rustington Girlguiding leader’s dedication is recognised

“SIGNIFICANT” service and a steadfast dedication to helping young people by one leading Rustington Guide has been recognised.

Pat Rawson, who is nearing the end of her term of office as Girlguiding Arun Valley Division commissioner, was presented with the prestigious Iris Doble Rose Bowl for her four decades of volunteer work with the organisation.

Pat, who joined the Guides in 1973, has served in many guises ranging from division camp adviser, division mentor to leaders in training, as well as being the Rustington district commissioner, she was also the leader of 4th Rustington Guides for around 32 years.

Speaking of her award, Pat said: “The words ‘thank you’ encompass a whole range of emotions including complete surprise, pleasure, joy and the knowledge that my name will join a whole raft of others from the past, many of whom I’ve looked up to as personal role models as I’ve experienced their care, support and concern in many different ways.

“During my time as its custodian, the Rose Bowl will serve to remind me of the current support and friendship I am experiencing from a super division team as well as the fun we have had with the girls at various events.”
