Road rage victim stabbed

A DRIVER was stabbed in the stomach after a vicious road rage attack in Durrington on Sunday.

The man, who lives locally and who is in his 30s, was taken to Worthing Hospital where he was admitted for treatment. Police said he was in a stable condition when the Herald went to print and his injuries were at no stage life threatening.

This is the second stabbing in Worthing in four days. On Thursday night a Swiss foreign student was stabbed three times in Bulkington Avenue, once in the arm and twice in the back, in an unprovoked racist attack after he was followed from Worthing Railway Station. The incidents are not being linked.

Detectives hunting the Durrington road rage attackers are searching for two men in a white Mark 3 Astra, who they believe were responsible.

Detective Sergeant Ray Scales said on Tuesday: "We are investigating what appears to be an unprovoked attack on an innocent member of the public, which could have resulted in very serious injury. We are anxious to identify the two people, driver and passenger, in the Vauxhall Astra who may have been involved.

The stabbing happened in Durrington Lane, outside Durrington Health Centre, at around 5.45pm on Sunday, after an incident on the nearby roundabout.

The victim was driving a green Mondeo. One of his attackers, the driver of the Astra, is described by police as having short dark hair, shaved at the sides. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. Both him and his passenger are believed to be in their 20s.

Jill Pedersen, a spokeswoman for Worthing police, said: "The white Astra is distinctive because it had a white sun blind and twin exhaust."

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the two cars from the roundabout at Centenary House, where the altercation took place, or anybody who recognised this Astra, to come forward.

Anyone with any information about either attack can contact detectives on 0845 6070999, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
