All the bins throughout the District are emptied on a regular basis and extra resources are used during the summer months to keep the bins clear however the Council won’t know that a bin is overflowing until its scheduled collection time.

There have been a number of incidents recently where dog waste bins and general litter bins have become full and waste has been left by the side of the bins, which is both unsightly and unhygienic.

The unusually hot weather has increased the amount of litter left and, on a number of occasions, this is being put into dog waste bins, which causes them to fill up very quickly and we are often finding that a single bag of rubbish has blocked the opening and the bin itself is empty.

Residents are being urged to report overflowing bins so that collection crews can be sent to empty them as quickly as possible to avoid further problems.

Andrew Baldwin (Con, Holbrook East), Horsham District Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “Most people dispose of their litter and dog waste sensibly.

“Staff are constantly working hard to ensure bins are emptied regularly. If someone sees a full litter or dog waste bin, please take your rubbish home and report the full bin to us so that we can arrange for it to be emptied as soon as possible.”

Please report any overflowing bins by emailing the location to [email protected] and we will empty them as soon as possible or call 01403 733144 and leave a message if out of hours.
