Remembering Derek

A BRITISH Mountain Ash was planted at the Pestalozzi International Village in Sedlescombe in memory of Rotarian and Pestalozzi Council member, Derek Norcross.

The ceremony took place during the annual Rotary Day, where Rotarians joined Pestalozzi students for dinner at the site followed by a fun quiz.

This year Rotaract, the youth Rotary Club formed of Pestalozzi students, raised money to provide clean water to a village in Nepal.

The project was suggested by Pestalozzi student, Prawash Gautam, after his trip home to Nepal in the summer break.

Norman Jones, Rotary District Governor, said: "Rotary shares many aims and objectives with Pestalozzi, particularly building international understanding and supporting poor communities in developing countries.

"It is always a delight to spend time with Pestalozzi students, who despite their own poor backgrounds work hard to raise money for the benefit of people even worse off than themselves.

"Derek Norcross was a great Rotarian, great Pestalozzi supporter and a great friend."

Derek's widow Audrey recommended the tree as one of Derek's' favourite varieties, which would always remind him of their holidays in the Lake District.
