It will almost double the capacity for recycling at the Uckfield site which provides a service to the whole of East Sussex.

Cllr Brian West, Wealden District Council's Cabinet Member for Services, said: 'This is excellent news and was the total amount of funding which we applied for in the bid.

'After all Wealden District Council's investment into recycling, it is tremendous to get some outside funding.

'This award will enable us to increase capacity by 50 per cent allowing additional handling of around 10,000 tonnes of recycling a year.'
