Proceeds of show go to wildlife hospital

The Bognor Regis Dog Training Club members presented the proceeds from their latest annual show to Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital.

The Sidlesham centre is facing closure because of a deepening financial crisis. Its representative, Penny Cooper, was present to receive the cheque.

Club spokesman Phil Lewis said: 'Each year, the club hosts a companion dog show at North Bersted and nominates a local charity to benefit from it.

'The show provides dogs and owners with an enjoyable afternoon while providing some much-needed funds to a deserving cause.'

The wildlife hospital has been caring for animals for 20 years. About 3,000 sick and injured wild birds, hedgehogs and other small mammals are treated each year.

Help and advice is also dispensed in response to thousands of phone calls and e-mail inquiries.

But it needs 30,000 just to keep going until the end of this year. It is totally dependent on voluntary donations to meet normal running costs which are put at 11,000 a month.
