Preparations are under way for the Bognor Regis Carnival

TRADITIONAL floats could make a return at this year's Bognor Regis Carnival.

A transport company has offered the use of its vehicles for groups who would like to enter a float in the style of carnivals from previous decades.

The past two revived carnivals by Bognor Regis Town Council have put the emphasis on walking entries.

But the prospect of lorries being used again will revive memories of the community event’s glory days.

The route will also return to its traditional direction of travelling from West Park into the Regis Centre car park.

One aspect of this year’s occasion which will be a break from the past is its staging on a Sunday.

July 3 has been chosen by the council to build on the popularity of the carnival’s return since 2009.

Town council events officer Sue Holmes said: “Once again, the emphasis will be on colour, design, music and dance.

“Now is the time to register entries with the council. The theme for 2011 is Colours of the World.

“This could be the red, white and blue of the USA, the wonderful colours of the Brazilian Mardi Gras, the sand of the deserts, the pinks and oranges of the coral reefs or the icy blues and whites of the Arctic.”

Trophies will be awarded to the winners of each of the seven categories. A prize of £100 each will also go to the best walking and best wheeled entries.

Marching bands and dance groups are also welcome.
