Police uses confiscated property to raise money for charity

Littlehampton Police has donated to a charity which stops disabled and elderly people from feeling isolated.

The force donated £300 to Just Able Friends to enable the charity to hold meetings, planned outings and social events.

The donation comes from the Police Property Act Fund (PPAF), made up of money received by the police from property confiscated by order of the court and then sold.

Patron Mandy Paine and Chairman David Jones said: “This donation will help us to continue to provide a great service to the community.

“The Just Able Friends is a fairly new charity, launched in May 2015 and exists to ensure that no disabled, lonely or isolated person need be friendless.

“We create events and meeting points where disabled people and elderly people can discover friendship and establish the contacts which can prevent them from becoming isolated, marginalised and excluded from their community.

“Research has shown that such excluded people, in addition to loneliness and depression, can suffer numerous health problems and lack the contact with others that could provide recognition and well being.”

Police Community Support Officer Margaret Walker said: “It is a pleasure to provide this donation. If you are lonely and isolated because of a disability I would encourage you to join this very worthwhile local community based charity.”
