POLICE SWOOP NETS RUSTLERS

Three people were caught by police trying to steal horses.

Police revealed today (Wednesday) that at about 10pm on Tuesday, August 29, three people forced entry into a secure yard in Laughton, stealing two horses from the yard and making off.

Police were called and prompt attendance by uniform officers from the local area and also by the police helicopter ensured that the offenders were either detained at the scene or located quickly nearby.

The horses were released by the offenders when attempting to evade the officers, however, they were quickly located and secured by police.

The offenders, a 20 year old man from Eastbourne and two females, a 23 year old from Brighton and a 26 year old from South Chailey, were interviewed by police and released on bail to allow further enquiries to take place.

All three offenders have now been given a formal police caution in relation to their actions.

The investigating officers, DC Ben Donovan and DC David Satchwell from the Weald District CID office. said:"The sort of offences committed above will not be tolerated by Sussex Police. To invade someone's property and their privacy in order to steal is a serious matter and it will be dealt with robustly on all occasions."
