Police step up patrols in Bognor area for bad behaviour over Halloween

Police will be patrolling hotspots in the area on the lookout for anti social behaviour for six nights over the halloween period.

The operation will involve youth workers, who will be speaking with youngsters. Patrols will start from 6pm on October 24, 29 and 31 and will continue on November 1, 5 and 7.

Members of the Arun Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) are launching Operation Spark-ler to educate people about behaving responsibly during bonfire night and halloween.

Specially designed leaflets and posters will be distributed across the district next week reminding people of their responsibilities, and visits to schools and youth clubs will be conducted by CDRP members to promote sensible behaviour.

'No trick or treating' posters will also be handed out to vulnerable and elderly groups to display in their windows and visits made to previously targeted locations to provide reassurance.

Henry Smith, leader of West Sussex County Council, said: "Bonfires and fireworks are something to be enjoyed, but there is the potential for danger and things going spectacularly wrong."
