Police donation to help charity tackle child grooming

Horsham Police has donated £500 to a charity to help create resource packs warning children of the dangers of being groomed.

The force has donated the money to StreetlightUK to fund their ‘Average 12’ resource pack for 12-year-olds.

The StreetlightUK Schools Resource Bag for Year 8 pupils is packed full of activities, facts, stories and resources to make children aware of the dangers of being groomed into the sex industry. The aim of the charity is to give every child a bag for free.

Davina White, StreetlightUK schools co-ordinator, said: “We are really thrilled to be able to produce more packs and to be able to go into more local schools. We are really grateful for the donation and the opportunity it will give us”

Police said the donation has come from the Police Property Act Fund, made up of monies received from property confiscated by order of the court and then sold.

Louisa Hull, public engagement officer at Horsham Police, said: “I am really pleased that we have been able to make this donation to StreetlightUK who are doing fantastic work to provide help and support to women at risk of, or involved in the sex industry in the Horsham, Crawley and Gatwick areas.

“The Average 12 resource pack helps to promote safety messages to young people and to make them aware of Child Sexual Exploitation which is one of Sussex Police’s force priorities.”
