Dr James Walsh, the Liberal Democrat candidate for Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner, visited Hastings town centre on Monday to meet with businesses and clergy and to ‘take the temperature’ of town centre issues in East Sussex.

Given a tour by Castle Ward Liberal Democrat campaigner, Nick Perry, Dr Walsh heard about some of the new projects being set up by, among others, Holy Trinity Hastings, under the leadership of new vicar, Revd Simon Larkin.

“I would like to see a return to a community policing model in Hastings town centre to support ongoing regeneration efforts and so that ‎local residents’ and businesses’ concerns get picked up and dealt with in a timely way,” said Dr Walsh.

Mr Perry said: “It was important for James to hear about the particular issues facing our town centre.

“I am confident that he can be a significant ally for Hastings.

“His background as a GP of 40 years’ standing gives him exactly the credentials needed to join up services to tackle our most pressing social problems.”
