Police are appealing for witnesses to the robbery during which a man was threatened with a knife and a hammer

The incident took place at around 9pm on Saturday March 25, in Sloane Close, Bewbush, police said.

The victim, a 42-year-old man, had arranged to meet a woman he had been talking to online but was instead greeted by a man armed with a knife and a hammer.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “The suspect emptied the contents of the victim’s wallet before fleeing. The victim was left shaken but unharmed.

“The suspect is described at white, around 5ft 9in, with short black hair and stubble.”

DC Kirstie Neal added: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Sloane Close and may have seen what happened to come forward.

“We are also seeking anyone else who may have fallen victim to this previously and hasn’t come forward yet.

“Finally, I would urge those members of the public using the internet to make connections to exercise caution when meeting someone for the first time and consider arranging to do so in well lit public places with lots of people around.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sussex Police online here or call 101 quoting serial 1419 of 25/03.
