The thrush is back at the top of his tree, loudly proclaiming that winter is over and spring is sprung.

Now that we have passed Ground Hog Day, we are halfway between the winter and the spring equinox, and the daylight hours are noticeably lengthening.

But that does not mean that the nights are short. They are still dark and spooky and just right for listening to tales of Ghostly Encounters. Locally-based actress Phillipa Urquhart will be telling Edwardian ghost stories in the W. I. Hall on 23rd February at 7.30 pm. After chilling your blood, you can be warmed with hot soup and a ploughman’s supper. FOPC invite you to this marvellous chance of something new. Tickets are £7.50 to include your supper. Today, Friday, all the children at Playden School have been asked to wear a “Bobble Hat” for Bobble day, when they pay £1 to go to the collection for Age UK. This is to help elderly people to keep warm.Girls from Playden, and Iden, attend the 1st Peasmarsh Brownies. A helper is needed each Monday evening from 6.30 to 8 pm in term time. ARRCC are holding a Jumble sale at Rye Community Centre on Saturday 9th February 2 - 4 pm. Any jumble can be collected if you phone 22 79 39

Playden W. I. will hold their next meeting in the hall on Monday at 2 pm. This is a birthday meeting. Mr. Bob Cooper will talk about “Wood Turning.” For the competition you are invited to bring a small jug.

The mid-week services continue on Tuesday at 9.30 am for Morning Prayer, and 3.30 pm for Evening Prayer.

Ash Wednesday is on 13th February. There will be a service with Ashing at Iden at 7 pm.

The 11 am service for the beginning of Lent will be a Family Service led by the Vicar.
