MORE THAN 20,000 people poured through the gates of this year's Heathfield Show on Saturday making it one of the most successful ever.

Weather pundits had got their forecasts wrong and visitors enjoyed sunshine all day.

They watched the South's finest livestock in the cattle, sheep and pig classes and enjoyed equestrian competitions which included a Shetland pony Grand National with ponies ridden by children aged between nine and 14.

No-holds-barred terrier racing was enjoyed as much by the terriers themselves as their owners.

Heathfield Farmers' Market demonstrated locally-produced food and drink while traditional country crafts were on show in the Country Ways area.

The Heathfield Silver Band played throughout the day and youngsters enjoyed daredevil motorbike riding and even a hair-raising trip in a Royal Navy Harrier simulator.
