Open Gardens: This annual event at Fairlight End, hosted by Chris and Robin Hutt, raised £4,545 for charity, an all time record for the sixth consecutive year. Over 300 people visited the garden during the weekend of June 25 and 26.

£3,636 goes to the National Gardens Scheme charities, which include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie and Hospice UK. £909 goes to Pett Village Hall, with thanks for their crucial support. The total raised for charity at Fairlight End since the garden first opened in 2010 now exceeds £25,000. This includes days run by St Michael’s Hospice.

Proceeds this year include sums from 4 private tours, one from Austria, 2 from the Netherlands, and 1 from a nearby village gardening club. Interest in the garden from overseas visitors is increasing steadily.

Chris Hutt said ‘A huge thank you goes to all our tireless local supporters, friends and neighbours, who contribute to this extraordinary event. We started it, but now it seems to have a life of its own.’

Coffee Morning: Tomorrow on Saturday July 2 there will be a coffee morning in aid of the Sara Lee Trust. From 10am till midday in Pett Village Hall, there will be homemade cakes, plants, books, local pictures and beautiful unique Italian scarves.

Church Services: Church Services on Sunday July 3 – 9:30am - Holy Communion St Mary & St Peter, Pett. 
Tea and coffee at the Old Post Office next door, after the service, by invitation of Jan and Mike Marsh.

There will be a Sunday Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

Village Hall Management Committee: This committee will meet on Monday July 4 at 7pm at Pett Village Hall. The meeting is open to the public so please come along and give your ideas and views on the hall.

Village Voices: Also on Monday July 4 the Village Choir will meet at Pett Methodist Church at 7:30pm.

Pett Older People’s Project: POPP on Tuesday July 5 will feature Keith Osbourne with Music for Health. The session runs from 10:30am to 2:00pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

Village Coffee Morning: Please note that there is no Village Coffee Morning this month.

1st Guestling & Pett: This year 1st Guestling & Pett Guides celebrate their 55th Birthday and Brownies their 50th Birthday and a joint celebration is planned at Guestwell on Saturday July 9.

If you have been a Brownie or Guide (maybe both!) or a Leader of either of these Units over the past 55 years, would you like to join in making this a memorable occasion? If so, please contact Sue Harris on [email protected].

Summer Concert: Fresh from being awarded the cup for first prize in the Church Choir section at the prestigious Hastings Music Festival, Guestling Church Choir will be taking part in this year’s “Cantabile, Songs for a Summer Evening” Concert on Saturday July 16. The concert takes place at St. Laurence Church, Guestling at 7pm, is hosted by Molly Townson, and also includes Suzan Ozkan (Soprano) and Enid Graham (Accompanist). Tickets are £12, which includes refreshment with strawberries and cream, and can be obtained directly from the Church, or from from Gill Perry (814578) or Molly Townson (812520). All concert proceeds will go to the St. Laurence Church Restoration Fund. Based on previous years, this is a concert not to be missed!
