Don’t forget on Friday June 21 the Pett W.I. meeting at 2:30pm in Pett Village Hall. The speaker will be local bee expert Bob Bond with a talk entitled ‘From Flower to Jar’. This meeting is an open meeting, which means visitors are welcome to join us for just £3. The talk begins at 3pm.

This weekend Pett Methodist Chapel will be celebrating its 165th Anniversary with an Art Exhibition entitled ‘Women of the Bible and Women of Today’. The art will be a mixture of paintings, photographs, stained-glass windows, and modern fantasy art. Along with the floral arrangements, it will all be worth seeing. The chapel will be open on Saturday June 22 from 10am to 4pm, with coffees, teas and lunches being served. It will be open again on Sunday June 23 from 2pm to 4pm for tea. The Minister, Rev. Ian Pruden will be leading the Anniversary Service at 10:45am and a Songs of Praise will take place at 6pm. All are welcome at any of these times.

Church Service on Sunday June 23 – Holy Communion, St Mary & St Peter, Pett at 9:30am led by Richard Baron; Anniversary Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

POPP on Tuesday June 25 will feature Annie Cryer. The session runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

The Mobile Library will be in Pett and Pett Level on Wednesday June 26. It will start at the Church at 10.10am, moving on to Chick Hill at 10:50am and finishing at The Smuggler at 11.20am.

One of the things I really enjoy about this column is the seasonality of it. There are many annual events in Pett and promoting and reporting on them each year gives me a real sense of continuity in what is an ever-changing world! Anyway, enough of the musings – it is that time of year again when we look forward to the Pett Flower Show!

Being held on Saturday July 27 at the Recreation Ground, the theme for this year is Blue Sapphire Anniversary. Last year Rother District Council donated money with which the Flower Show Committee decided to buy a new prize cup. Each year this cup will be awarded to the exhibit chosen by the President, which best reflects the theme of the year. So get your thinking caps on. How can your entry best reflect the Blue Sapphire Anniversary?

The Committee is hoping for a bumper year for home grown produce for the exhibits but if you feel too shy, the stall selling fresh produce would be very grateful for any homegrown contributions. You can also bring along a cake or perhaps a preserve. Every contribution helps to make this event the success that it is.

As always there is a plea for all hands on deck! No matter how much time you can give, whether it is just ½ an hour or a longer spell, please contact a member of the Committee. Contact details are on the back of the schedule.

And what always follows the Pett Flower Show as sure as night follows day? That’s right – the Village Party in the Marquee. Starting at 8pm with music by Michael Hambridge, tickets are just £8, which will include food but bring your own drink.
