Young Midhurst artist scoops top prize in national Best in Everyone Awards
Cadan Welch, a year 13 student at Midhurst Rother College, scooped the art award at the United Learning group’s Best in Everyone Awards.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s ceremony took place virtually and Cadan’s award was announced in a special video on Twitter, along with a personal message of congratulations from his art teacher, Kate Murray, who nominated him.

Hide AdCadan said: “I was honoured to receive the art award from United Learning.
“It was so encouraging to learn art at Midhurst Rother College due to my teachers’ overwhelming support and dedication to my creative experience. This award is a huge confidence boost and as I head off to university to study art I will look back on my formative years at Midhurst with fondness.”
Cadan’s teachers said he is keen to develop his skill in every art form and spends much of his free time nurturing his talent.
As well as producing exceptional artwork, Cadan makes a significant contribution to the school’s art department and has worked hard to raise the profile of art within the school.

Hide AdMrs Murray, subject leader of art at the college, said: “Cadan is the most prolific art student who spends copious time developing his practice and immersing himself in his artwork.
“He is not afraid of challenge or hard work and is an exemplar to our younger students.
“He is a credit to his family, our art department and the college.”We are delighted his hard work and dedication have been recognised with this award.”
United Learning’s Best in Everyone Awards recognise the impressive achievements of the group’s students and staff across the country.
