Wacky hair challenge to support sick and vulnerable children launched by Horsham charity

Whether it be a Beatles do, a comb-over style or growing your hair into an 80s mullet, Action Medical Research is hoping its ‘Locksdown Challenge’ will get people having fun while raising money at the same time.

The charity is also urging those taking part to share pictures of their hair on social while nominating a friend to do the same.

Lewis Coghlin, Action’s director of fundraising, said: “The idea is to get involved and have fun in these strange times and do something which will help Action continue to fund medical research for sick babies and children.

“Every pound raised really could make a difference in our fight for tiny lives.”

There are two ways to get involved.

Firstly, supporters can create an instantly ‘wacky’ hairstyle by creatively using of hair bands and/or hair gel, take a selfie and share it on social media with the tag @actionmedres

They can nominate a friend by tagging them too, and each time texting HAIR to 70450 will donate £3* to donate.

Alternatively, supporters could really commit to the cause by changing their hairstyle for the duration of the ‘locksdown’ by growing a mullet or taking on any other wacky style.

By creating a Facebook fundraiser for Action Medical Research, those taking part could chart their progress and show their friends and family how the ‘do’ is doing.

Action Medical Research for children is a UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research.

It has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952 including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.

Action is currently funding research into areas including premature birth, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.
