The Covid-19 infection rate in each area of Hastings

More than one per cent of residents living in two Hastings neighbourhoods tested positive for Covid-19 in a week, according to the last NHS figures.

West St Leonards has a rate of 1,380 cases per 100,000 people and Old Hastings a rate of 1,097 cases per 100,000 people in the seven day period up to December 16.

Silverhill has a rate of 938 per 100,000 people, just below one per cent.

England’s Covid-19 infection rate for the past seven days was 284.2, meaning every Hasting neighbourhood is above the national average.

The figures, collated by the NHS, includes data for each neighbourhood of Hastings for the seven day period up to December 16.

Ashdown – 52 new cases at a rate of 610 per 100,000 people

Braybrooke and Bohemia – 66 new cases at a rate of 769 per 100,000 people

Broomgrove – 41 new cases at a rate of 556 per 100,000 people

Central St Leonards – 53 new cases at a rate of 604 per 100,000 people

Conquest and St Helens – 63 new cases at a rate of 650 per 100,000 people

Old Hastings – 84 new cases at a rate of 1,097 per 100,000 people

Ore – 46 new cases at a rate of 641 per 100,000 people

Silverhill – 83 new cases at a rate of 938 per 100,000 people

West St Leonards – 151 new cases at a rate of 1,380 per 100,000 people

In the latest government figures – which were updated on Monday (December 21) – Hastings recorded 746 cases in the past seven days. The area as a whole has an infection rate of 805.1 per 100,000 people. The rate of infection in Hastings is by far the highest in Sussex.

The next highest rate of infection across the county is in Rother where it is 552.7 per 100,000 people. The latest figures show 531 tested positive for Covid-19 in Rother in the past seven days.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 2,197 cases of Covid-19 in Hastings, according to government data. There have been 16 coronavirus-related deaths in Hastings registered up to December 4, the latest figures show.

In Rother, there have been a total of 1,918 cases since the start of the pandemic. The latest figures show there have been 76 coronavirus-related deaths registered in the district up to December 4.

Hastings and Rother were placed in tougher Tier 4 restrictions on Saturday evening.
