Mayor of Bognor Regis presents his Good Citizen's Award to Glenn Maher

Last week, the Mayor of Bognor Regis, Cllr. Francis Oppler presented his Mayor’s Good Citizen Award to a well-deserving individual, who has gone above and beyond to make a positive difference to Bognor Regis.

This year’s recipient, Glenn Maher has lived in Bognor Regis all his life and grew up with his parents and six siblings. He worked for a long period of time at Lec Refrigeration, on the factory floor, along with several other family members and a vast majority of other people living in the Town and surrounding areas until they ceased trading in 2007.

When Glenn started employment at Biffa working in Bognor Regis, the realisation that this was the perfect job for him was evident. He takes great pride in keeping his town clean and tidy, as part of the Biffa team.

He’s described by those closest to him as a friendly and bubbly character, who always has a smile on his face. Glenn makes it his job to welcome holidaymakers far and wide into the Bognor Regis fold when he sees them and will always offer assistance, directions and some friendly advice when needed.

As he was unable to attend the Town Council’s recent Civic Reception to accept the accolade, it was a pleasure for the Mayor Cllr. Francis Oppler to meet with him, his proud sister Amanda Perry, and his Biffa employers Steve Usher and Rafe Wisemen, to present Glenn with his well-deserved award.

Upon receiving the award Glenn said: “I cannot thank all my friends and the people of Bognor Regis enough for their kind words and encouragement with winning this award.

"I would like to thank Biffa for their support and kindness they have shown me and their values for all their employees and feel that they are a strong workforce that take pride in not only looking after their employees but to ensure that the town is a clean and safe environment for residents and holidaymakers to enjoy.

"I feel very overwhelmed by winning this award and never dreamed I could have won it. Lastly, I would like to thank Cllr. Francis Oppler for also believing in me".
