Joe Killner, 51, completed a 110 mile bike ride on his turbo trainer during a 12 hour ‘shift’ to raise cash for healthcare workers.

He said: “Going into ride I was feeling nervous as the enormity of what I was going to dawned on me.”

Joe started at 6.30am on Saturday April 18 and said for the first two hours he doubted if he could complete the challenge.

But as the hours and minutes pass Joe said he got into his bike ride, helped by support from friends on social media.

After finishing the epic ride Joe, an operations standards specialist for Southeastern Railway, said: “Job done – I’m still alive and surprisingly I didn’t ache to much on Sunday.”

He added that the main reason he took on the ride was to raise funds for the NHS.

Joe set a fundraising goal of £850 but has since smashed this, raising more than £3,200.

He said as he completed his challenge neighbours gathered outside to spur him on and Joe even completed a 20 second sprint near the end in return for an extra £10 donation from a friend.

Joe added: “As 6.30pm approached and the 12 hours was nearly up, my neighbours gathered outside and started clapping – very emotional to say the least.”
