‘Double take’ over photo of Burgess Hill demolition site

Peter Jeffery, 88, recalled taking a photo of the building when it was first under construction back in 1970.
Peter, who lived in Burgess Hill all his life before moving to Hurstpierpoint, said: “I spotted the picture in the Middy of the demolition of the Martlets, Burgess Hill, in last week’s paper,

Hide Ad“I had to do a double take as it is almost identical to a picture that I took in March 1970, when the Martlets was being built on the site of the PNEU School playing field.”
The school later became Burgess Hill Girls School.
Demolition is taking place at the former library site to make way for the next steps in the £65m town centre redevelopment project which is being undertaken by NewRiver.
The demolition project includes work to reinstate a hard surface across the entirety of the site, including the area previously covered by Martlets Hall, to ensure the area is safe and ready to be brought back into use.
