The ceremony, on behalf of the people of the Horsham district, was also attended by the Bishop of Horsham Ruth Bushyager, MP Jeremy Quin, council vice chairman David Skipp, West Sussex County Councillor Morwen Millson and a representative of the Horsham branch of the Royal British Legion.

In accordance with government guidelines, the traditional event - which would normally take place to commemorate Remembrance Sunday with a live audience and parade - was unable to take place because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Remembrance Sunday was originally conceived as a commemoration of the war dead of the First World War, but after the Second World War, the ceremony was extended to focus on the nation’s dead of both World Wars, and in 1980 it was widened once again to extend the remembrance to all who have suffered and died in conflict in the service of their country and all those who mourn them.

A short service of remembrance was conducted by the Bishop of Horsham Ruth Bushyager and a two minute silence was observed.
