The Grade II listed Victorian property - Lock House in Partridge Green - is set within 85 acres of formal gardens and mature grounds with indoor and outdoor swimming pools and room for a helicopter.

Grammy-Award winning star Adele - one of Britain’s richest musicians - lived at the 10-bedroom property at the time that her successful second album 21 was produced.

The country mansion was also the venue for the wedding of land speed record holder Donald Campbell to his first wife Lady Daphne Harvey in 1945.

The house itself was built around 1900 and was refurbished and extended in the 1930s for the Harvey family - owners of London’s Claridges Hotel.

In more recent years a leisure complex with indoor swimming pool has been added but many of the mansion’s Art Deco features have been retained.

The property is approached from a long drive through a covered porch area leading to a reception hall with Jacobean style carved staircase.

The house’s south facing drawing room has a marble fireplace and a potential kitchen/family room occupies a former ballroom.

Most of the bedrooms are arranged in suites, including an extensive and luxurious principal suite.

There is also three bedroom staff accommodation, extensive garaging and a guest cottage.

The property - which was used as a convent in the 1970s - is currently on sale through estate agents Savills.

Savills’ head of residential in the south east Will Peppitt said: “Approached by a long private lane, Lock House is an impressive country home set in the beautiful countryside of West Sussex, with views to the South Downs.

“In terms of leisure facilities, it doesn’t get much better, with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a tennis court and pavilion, summer house, Jacuzzi, sauna, and even a helicopter hangar.”
